TriMet's Transit Police
Central Patrol District
TriMetʼs Transit Police Central patrol district includes portions of unincorporated Multnomah County, as well
as the City of Portland. This jurisdiction includes a mix of MAX light rail platforms, residential and
commercial bus routes, and vital transit corridors that connect communities throughout the region. To
identify peak operational demands, our heatmaps break down these calls by day of the week and time of
day, revealing a highly concentrated wave of midday and evening activity.
The data demonstrates that the system becomes highly active starting in the mid-morning and stays
elevated for nearly 12 hours. Thursday at 12 p.m., for example, marks an early spike with 26 calls.
By identifying the precise windows where activity occurs—such as the Tuesday evening commute or the
midday Thursday surge—we can align our personnel schedules to ensure TriMetʼs Transit Police are highly
visible on platforms and buses during peak hours.
