TriMet's Transit Police
West Patrol District
While the early-morning hours across TriMet's Transit Police's West patrol district remain mostly quiet,
Monday mornings in 2025 saw an increase occurring between midnight and 2 a.m., registering nine calls at
midnight and peaking at 13 calls at 1 a.m.
To keep this specific window in perspective, these numbers represent an average of approximately one call
every four weeks over the course of the entire year. An analysis of these calls indicates that they are highly
concentrated at two specific transit-adjacent properties (the 200 block of Southwest 185th Avenue and the
4000 block of Southwest Lombard Street, both in Hillsboro). Most of these contacts were resolved as
lower-level, non-violent calls for service, primarily categorized as unwanted persons, followed by requests to
assist a person, investigative follow-ups, suspicious circumstances, and welfare checks.
Because Washington County is experiencing population growth, Transit Police must ensure future staffing
needs for that area -- despite a 19% decline in call volumes in 2025. Securing additional sworn personnel will
allow the agency to stay ahead of Washington County's population increase, and ensure that the transit
system remains safe.
