TriMet's Transit Police
Documented Time Spent on the Transit System
The physical presence of uniformed personnel on platforms, transit centers, and vehicles is the most
effective tool for deterring crime and building public trust. Rather than relying on police stations - or
substations or traditional postings, TriMetʼs Transit Police focuses on a mobile, high-visibility footprint.
In 2025, deputies and officers dedicated a total of 13,121 hours to active, documented patrols directly on the
transit system – including buses, MAX light rail trains, transit centers, stations, and platforms. This
represents a 38.5% increase over 2024.
This substantial increase in patrol hours reflects a deliberate strategy by TriMetʼs Transit Police to enhance
safety for passengers and transit operators. With more law enforcement embedded within the network,
personnel are addressing incidents before they escalate into emergency dispatch calls. This consistent
visibility reassures the public and TriMet staff and serves as a direct deterrent to crime and blight.
