Public Safety Missions
While individual proactive policing forms the day-to-day work, TriMetʼs Transit Police addresses persistent
and complex criminal activity through structured, large-scale public safety missions. These operations
utilize a coordinated response designed to systematically dismantle recurring crime trends, address
high-vulnerability locations, and respond to actionable community tips.
When emerging patterns – such as organized property crime, drug activity, or public indecency – are
identified at specific transit hubs and adjacent neighborhoods, TriMetʼs Transit Police deploys a robust,
coordinated response. Frontline patrol assets work with assigned detectives, prosecutors, and, when
necessary, regional law enforcement partners. This approach allows undercover and specialized
investigative units to target the root causes of criminal behavior, while high-visibility uniformed personnel
simultaneously saturate platforms and vehicles to suppress active offenses and reclaim public spaces.
