Collaborative Safety Presence
The Multnomah County Sheriffʼs Office is dedicated to leading a holistic, regional approach to transit safety.
As part of this commitment, TriMetʼs Transit Police coordinates with TriMetʼs field staff, contracted security
partners and specialized outreach team. By understanding each partner's distinct roles and capabilities,
personnel resolve public safety issues efficiently, transparently, and at the most appropriate operational
level.
TriMetʼs Safety Response Team serves as a first line of contact for vulnerable community members. Team
members connect people with mental health professionals, addiction counselors, and housing resources,
while proactively managing non-criminal, quality-of-life issues. When law enforcement personnel encounter
people requiring social service navigation rather than law enforcement intervention, they coordinate with
the Safety Response Team to provide immediate support.
